Defense Freedom of Information Policy Office (DFOIPO)


The Defense Freedom of Information Policy Office (DFOIPO) is responsible for the formulation and implementation of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) policy guidance for the Department of Defense (DoD)  Under the authority of the DoD Chief FOIA Officer, Mr. Michael L. Rhodes, Acting Director of Administration and Management, Office of the Secretary of Defense, DFOIPO developed and is responsible for the execution of the DoD FOIA Improvement Plan.  On December 14, 2005, President George W. Bush signed Executive Order 13392, Improving Agency Disclosure of Information.  In accordance with the Executive Order, the DoD established FOIA Requester Service Centers and named 17 FOIA Chief Public Liaisons.

HOW TO SUBMIT A FOIA REQUEST


Each Military Service, Department of Defense Component, and Combatant Command, responds to requests for its own records. Instructions for submitting a FOIA request may be found in the DoD Freedom of Information Handbook or by visiting the FOIA Requester Service Center websites.
